Advantech's Atom based digital signage PC

Advantech has expanded it's small form factor DS PC offering with the relatively new DSA-3020. This is an Intel Atom based PC that uses the Intel GMA 500 onboard video card. Advantech claims support for a wide range of resolutions all the way up to 1080p and there is a DVI connector.

Pricing should be slightly higher than consumer grade Atom based PCs (like the Asus Eee Box) but this is an industrial PC so it's to be expected.

It's always more difficult to justify the extra expense for purpose built PC hardware as budgets get tighter. Users should perhaps look further than just the initial cost of the PC hardware since replacing a defective unit will add cost in the long run. It should also be noted that purpose built PCs like the DSA-3020 offer additional capabilities such as a built-in watchdog timer to restart the PC in case of a software lock up. These units use metal cases, not plastic and are designed to operate in harsher environments compared to your typical "retail" PC.

Advantech offers a complete range of purpose built digital signage PCs.
