NVIDIA's ION Hardware Platform coming out soon!

With NVIDIA about to release their new Atom-based platform (called ION), DS industry observers are eagerly awaiting to see how these units compare with the current Atom based PCs already on the market. Everyone is hoping for better preformance than current Atom offerings based on the Intel graphics chipsets.

Units such as the Asus Eee Box and have been quite popular due to their low cost and small form factor but video performance has been "hit and miss"... While some DS operators have had success deploying these units, others have had performance issues.

With NVIDIA enterning the market, things are sure to get interesting. Hot Hardware has a review of the upcoming Acer Aspire Revo on their web site. They claim a 10X video performance increase over competitive solutions.
ION will support Intel processors up to Core 2 so there will obviously be many products based on this chipset. This may very well be the first in what will become a flood of new affordable ultra small form factor PCs from Asian manufacturers later this year.
